奄美大島泥染(Amami Mud-Dyeing) GL3 JEANS
- These jeans are made from denim woven on a Toyota Automatic Loom Works GL3 power loom—manufactured half a century ago—and dyed using the traditional Amami mud-dyeing technique passed down for generations on Amami Oshima. The fabric is made from 15 oz. selvedge denim. To bring out the full potential of the GL3, every detail—from the texture and irregularities of the yarn to the yarn count and warp and weft density—has been carefully engineered according to STUDIO D’ARTISAN’s original recipe. The denim’s distinctive uneven texture and rugged character are what make it special—qualities that cannot be achieved with today’s efficient, highly uniform mass-produced denim. Amami mud dyeing—which uses dye extracted from the Techi tree (wheel plum), native to Amami Oshima, and iron-rich mud sourced from geological strata dating back over 1.5 million years—produces hues with depth and warmth that artificial dyes can never replicate. The silhouette features the brand’s signature regular straight cut. A moderately high rise and a balanced thigh width create a classic, versatile fit that is neither too slim nor too relaxed.
